How Does WhatsApp Call Work?

1. Download Wireshark
First, download and install Wireshark from the official site.It is a free network analyzer tool that helps you capture live internet traffic.
2. Setup WhatsApp Desktop
Install WhatsApp Desktop (Don’t Use WhatsApp Web)
⚠️ Don’t use WhatsApp Web, because Desktop app works directly with your network,which makes it easy to analyze packets in Wireshark.
3. Select Network Interface
Open Wireshark and choose your active internet connection. This ensures you capture the correct traffic.
4. Apply Voip / Stun filter
In the filter bar, type:
stunThis filter shows only STUN packets (used for call connections).
5. Make the WhatsApp Call
Once the call is active, you will see STUN/UDP packets in Wireshark.
Compare the Source and Destination IPs. One will always be your own (or your VPN), and the other belongs to the person you’re calling.
6. Capture IP Address Location
Once the call is active, you will see STUN/UDP packets in Wireshark.
Check the “Source” and “Destination” columns → one IP belongs to you (or your VPN), and the other is the victim’s IP.
7. Verify IP Address Location
Copy the IP address and paste it into any online IP lookup service, such as iplocation.net.
This tool will show you details like the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the approximate location of that IP.
👉 For example, in my test, I was using a VPN connection. The IP address captured in Wireshark was 128.14.197.72, which belongs to a USA-based VPN server. Even though the real location was different, Wireshark successfully detected the VPN IP without the other person (scammer) knowing anything.
